Burning Desire

By Victory Circles

Success is focusing the full power of all you are on what you have a burning desire to achieve.   – Wilferd A. Peterson

The coolness of the morning breeze coming through my window is a welcome relief from the burning temperatures of these first few days of August!  Wow all I can say is thank heavens for air conditioning, a pool and summer nights to cool it all down!

Last week I talked about the idea of being a jet, well balanced and steady to the course.  This week thinking of the focus that gets us there seems to be on my mind as the topic for discussion.

If we stop and think of the things we have accomplished in our lives, those things that make us the proudest, wasn’t there something burning deep inside of us when that happened?  Wasn’t the negativity swept to the side?  Moving us forward.

John Lennon’s song, Nobody Told Me was playing on the car radio this past week.  As he sang the words, “There’s always something cooking and nothing in the pot” it seemed to say what it is, to be cruising along at 100 miles per hour without a burning desire. That special something to help us maintain our momentum.

I have in my garden a Tonka truck, saved from Travis’s, sandbox days.  Seeing this sturdy little toy sitting there reminds me of the many joyful days my son would imagine being the driver of that truck.  For hours he would drive it around dumping sand from the front loader.  He was full of passion and yes a burning desire to have fun with that truck.  While the sandbox itself is long gone – the truck remains, as do those precious memories.

This Friday, 8-8-08, we will watch the Olympians of the world step into the spotlight.  For 16 days we will have the opportunity to watch these special athletes who had enough burning desire for their sport of choice to get them there.   No small feat to be sure.

What holds your passion, your burning desire and your internal Olympic flame?  This week as you set out to do what must be done in your life, how excited are you to be doing it?  What goals and dreams are being met as you push forward?  Who are the people who you surround yourself with that are supporting you in those dreams?

Keep these additional words of W. Clement Stone in your mind as you move forward into the week ahead.  “You are a product of your environment.  So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objective.  Are the things around you helping you toward success – or are they holding you back?”

Remember to fill that pot while cooking with ingredients that nurture your soul.  Add the ingredients, as you need to, stir as necessary and have a great week ahead!
